Making college real for students is the primary goal of the GEAR UP program. More than 14,317 Chicago GEAR UP Alliance students, their parents, teachers, and school and district staff participate in this program which strives to improve student academic performance and increase the postsecondary awareness. The Chicago GEAR UP Alliance (CGUA) is a partnership of seven local postsecondary institutions: Northeastern Illinois University (fiscal agent), DePaul University, Loyola University, National Louis University, Roosevelt University, Truman College (Chicago City Colleges), and the University of Chicago.
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is one of the most active grants at CTC and has been part of the Center since 1999.
