Owl pellets are interesting.
Bones are in owl pellets.
When an owl eats a rodent,
Rodent bones go into a pellet.
When an owl eats a shrew,
shrew bones go into a pellet.
When an owl eats a mole,
mole bones go into a pellet.
When an owl eats a bird,
bird bones go into a pellet.
Owls are great.
Owls are the best.

When my partner and I were digging, I was excited. Some bones came out of the pellet. We found lots of jaws of rodents and lots of teeth of rodents. We found assorted vertebrae pieces. We glued some of the bones. It was getting a little boring. It took so much time. It was getting a little tiring at the end of the day.

October 3, 2000

My partner and I are almost done with the bones.
We found lots of bones.
Big ones.
Small Ones.
It’s hard to find a shoulder blade.
All we found was rodent bones.
We found lots of jaws and loose teeth.
Nobody found a shoulder blade.

Paleontologists are interesting.
They study bones.
My class and I were talking about bones.
Human bones.
Owl pellet bones.
Now dinosaur bones.
Dinosaurs are cool.
Dinosaurs are great.

The owl pellets are like digging for dinosaurs in the sand because the fur is like sand and the bones are like dinosaur bones because they’re old.

Paleontologists are interesting. They are interesting because they study dinosaur bones. Their job is different from doing owl pellets because dinosaur bones are older than rodent bones. They’re different because dinosaur bones are bigger than rodent bones. They’re different because rodent bones come with fur. Dinosaurs and rodents are the same because if they had no bones they would be like a jellyfish. Some things are the same. Some things are different.

When we did our owl pellet we had to choose a partner. We found lots of bones. It was fun, but it made our hands dirty. My partner was Angelina. We go to each other’s house. Angelina and I found lots of bones. Sometimes the fur made me sneeze. It was a mess.

October 2, 2000

Angelina and I found a lot of bones. We found the head, ribs, vertebrae, tail, and little tiny bones. We cleaned the bones and we looked for some more bones. It was very hard because some of the bone is very small It was fun to do, but very hard to see the bones. Harder than anything.

 October 3, 2000

Angelina and I finished the bones yesterday because some of my friends helped us yesterday. We found a lot of bones. We didn’t find the skulls of the shrew and the mole and the bird. We only found the rodent. We found the rodent skull and the shoulder blades and the hips, the front legs, and some ribs. We found the shrew’s jaws. We found some vertebrae. An owl pellet is hard to finish in three days, I think. It’s fun because it takes a long time to finish. Sometimes the fur makes you sneeze.

The paleontologist digs for dinosaurs. I dig in the owl pellet. I dig a lot of bones and I dig with a partner. Her name is Angelina. We had to put the bones on the paper. We glued them on the paper.

Yesterday we dug up pellets from owls. We had partners. My partner was Khawlah. It was fun and exciting. We found the ulna and radius. We also found a feather. We think it’s a shrew. Owl pellets are cool.

 October 2, 2000

When we cleaned the owl pellets it was hard because the fur wouldn’t come out. Khawlah was cleaning them. I was finding out which bone goes on which bone. It was fun because we got to glue. We finished cleaning the big bones.

 October 6, 2000

When we finished our owl pellet we found 2 jaws from a mole. It was fun. I found the hind legs. We also found one vertebra and one loose tooth. We had no skull. Khawlah found a vertebra. It was exciting.

October 7, 2000

Owl pellet bones and dinosaur bones are the same because they both need cleaning. They both need to be put in a special place. The job is the same because you need to clean and put them somewhere safe. Something different is the dinosaur bones are bigger. I wonder if it’s hard.

Our class was doing owl pellets and my partner and I were digging in the pellets. We found some bones and it took a long time to dig. We found lots of jaws and the hard part was to take out the fur.

 October 2, 2000

My partner and I were cleaning. We were cleaning the inside and the inside was hard when we started sorting them.

 October 3, 2000

My partner and I found four jaws and we did not find any shrew jaws. We found vertebrae and we did not find shoulder blades. We thought we had a mole jaw, but we didn’t. We had lots of teeth.

October 4, 2000

Owl pellets are different than dinosaurs because the bones in owl pellets are different than dinosaur bones. The dinosaur skull is different and the body is big. The owl pellet body is small.

Today my class is working on owl pellets. My partner is Marjan. We dug through an owl pellet and found a dead rodent. Marjan found the skull. I put the bones together. We found something coming from his skull. I thought it was a bone, but Marjan said it was a tooth.

 October 2, 2000

On Friday my class again worked on owl pellets. Marjan was my partner. It was hard, but we figured it out. We wanted to build the animal that we found and put it together. Marjan said it was hard and said he couldn’t do it. Also I thought it was hard but I wanted to try. I started a little and finished, but not that much. The bell rang and we stopped. I like doing owl pellets.

October 3, 2000

Marjan and I are working on owl pellets. Marjan found a rodent and mole. I found a skull of a bird. By accident I dropped a bone. Marjan found 10 assorted ribs. I also found 12 loose teeth. I found a plastic-looking bone. I tried to put together the rodent and tried to finish, but I couldn’t finish. I did not find a bone. Then my class had to go to computer class. I love to do owl pellets.

I think a paleontologist’s work is different from working on owl pellets. I think looking for bones is harder than working on owl pellets, because paleontologists have to dig in sand. Owl pellets have bones that are small and paleontologists look at bones that are bigger than themselves. When I grow up I want to discover big bones.
