Howe Integrated Thematic Units Team
Howe Elementary School was the best-represented school in the CLC Project at the Integrated Thematic Units Seminar taught by Christine Wedam-Rosario in the summer of 1995.

 

 

Participants from Howe included Pearl Matthews, Bonnie Garrett, Lois Shikami, Jenifer Bruce, Jill Lawless, Emily Hill, Amy Thoms, Maggie Hoover, Cynthia Joiner, Mary Quinn, and Karen Kahle.

 

At left, Pearl Matthews is sharing a resource for her Animal Unit and at right, Pearl is presenting a chart which was used in brainstorming ideas for the unit.

 

Units developed focused on the following topics:

  • The Environment
  • The Human Body
  • Kwanzaa
  • Space
  • Animals

Each participant in the Integrated Thematic Units Summer Seminar left with copies of the completed units for use in their classrooms. With a little adjustment, it was possible to use many of the actrivities at different grade levels.
