1. PERFORMING DIVISION WITH LINKS

State Goal for Learning 6: Demonstrate a knowledge and sense of numbers and their representations, including basic operations, ratios, and proportions, by using multiple ways of obtaining exact values and estimates to understand patterns involving numbers and their applications.

Chicago Academic Standard: Solve real world problems which require addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by appropriate strategies, such as using manipulatives.

Curriculum Framework Statement: Solve related multiplication and division problems in order to check computations involving whole numbers.

Activity: Students work with links to perform division problems as indicated verbally, or on paper. Links are separated in equal groups as problem is solved. Later, problem and answer are written.

Materials: Links, working mat (construction paper).

Outcome: 90% mastery of activity using links, 80% mastery of transfer of learned materials to a written task.

Assessment: Teacher-made performance test
