The Department holds Information Sessions throughout the year for those interested in learning more about our Clinical Mental Health, Family, School, and Rehabilitation Counseling programs.

You are strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions to learn about the scope of our programs, including application procedures and deadline dates.  All sessions will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm in Lech Walesa Hall, room LWH 1001. 

 

Free street parking is available on Bryn Mawr, Central Park, and St. Louis Avenues. Presentations begin promptly at 6:00 pm.

Information for Students Planning on  Practicum for the 2013-14

The Practicum application for the 2013-14 academic year is available on the 'Department Forms' link of this website.  Students planning on registering for Practicum for the fall 2013 term must attend a mandatory Practicum Orientation, scheduled from 6-7:30 pm, Thursday, November 8, 2012, in room SU-214. Contact your advisor with any questions regarding practicum.

Departmental Proficiency Examination (DPE)
The next DPE is scheduled from 9-12 noon, Saturday, June 8, 2013, room to be announced. 

The DPE application can be printed from the 'Department Forms' link of this website.  Applications are due 2 weeks prior to exam date and must be signed by your advisor.  Contact your advisor with any questions regarding the DPE.

National Counselor Examination (NCE) for the National Certified Counselor (NCC) Credential

The next NCE will be offered Saturday, October 19, 2013, room TBA.  Applications will be available from from Dona M. Wisniewski, starting May 1, 2013.  Application deadline is July 8, 2013.  Contact Dona at 773-442-5557 for information. 

The National Certified Counselor (NCC) is the National Board for Certified Counselor's professional counseling credential.  Holders of this certification must meet national standards set by the counseling profession.  The NCC is a voluntary credential. It is not the same as state licensure, nor is it a substitute for it.  In the state of Illinois, a passing score on the NCE can be used as a method for applying for the LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) license.  For additional information on the NCE exam, go to nbcc.org.

Counselor Education Alumni and School Counseling Endorsement

Alumni who graduated from Community or Clinical Mental Health, Family, or Rehabilitation Counseling can obtain a Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counseling endorsement. Contact the Department at 773-442-5557 for further information.
