Clinical experience

 

Practicum and internship consist of 700 hours of documented field related experience, of which a cumulative 280 hours of face to face counseling is required.  COUN 444 Practicum is a 100-hour, field-based experience requiring a minimum of 40 hours of direct contact with clients.  COUN 464 Internship I and 474 Internship II together consists of a 600-hour, field-based experience requiring a minimum of 240 hours of clinical contact with clients.  Practicum is taken in the fall semester.  Internship I and Internship II are taken in the spring and summer semesters, respectively.  When appropriate, the practicum and internship may be taken at the student's place of employment. 

To be eligible to begin Practicum for the community counseling sequence, the following courses must be completed:  COUN 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 409, 420, 427, and 430.  (COUN 407, 408, and an elective may be taken during the Practicum and Internship year.)  Students may only take one additional course per term during Practicum/Internship.
