COUNSELING
STAFF
Northeastern's
Counseling staff is composed of professionals with a variety
of different backgrounds, skills and interests. They come from
the fields of Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Career Counseling
and Social Work. All permanent staff hold master's or doctoral
degrees in their fields of study. Doctoral and master's-level
interns also provide clinical services under the direct supervision
of the counseling staff. Current Staff members include:
John
Hoeppel, PhD
Director
- Dr.
Hoeppel received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from
Loyola University Chicago. Along with providing individual
counseling and therapy, he has interests in working with
couples, using meditation and journaling in therapy and
in psychopharmacology.
Elizabeth
Pullen, PsyD
Clinical Coordinator
- Dr.
Pullen received her doctorate from the Illinois School of
Professional Psychology in Chicago. Her interests include
gender issues, relational, feminist and trauma theories
and self-psychology. She also studies Buddhism and meditation.
David
Helfand, EdD
Coordinator of Career Counseling
- Dr.
Helfand received his doctorate from Loyola University Chicago
and has interests in career decision-making and career change
in adulthood. He is a regular contributor of on-line articles
to Gannett Newspaper websites and Quintcareers.com, and
is the author of Career Change, the 2nd edition of which
was published in 1999.
William
Speller, MA
Counselor
- Mr.
Speller received his master's degree from the University
of Chicago. He provides general supportive and career counseling,
as well as helping to serve the needs of students who are
military veterans. He has interests in career development
and minority concerns in higher education.
Will
Hutter, PsyD
Outreach Coordinator
- Dr.
Hutter earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the
Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He also has a
Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Edgewood College
(Madison, WI). His areas of interest include forensic issues;
gay, lesbian, and relationship dynamics; and the implication
of dreams.
Kathryn Tecza, PsyD
Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Tecza received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Her interests include positive psychology, performance enhancement, and working with clients who have experienced trauma. She is also completing certification in EMDR.
Carrie Berta, MA
Psychology Extern

Ms. Berta is a Psychology Extern from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she is working towards a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. Her areas of interest include GLBT issues, trauma theories, diversity, and relational, psychoanalytic theory.
Carmen Lucia, MA, LPC
Psychology Extern

Ms. Lucia is a Psychology Extern from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where she is currently working toward a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. Her areas of interest include women’s issues, diversity, relationships, and life transitions, with emphasis on existential and psychodynamic theory.
Dana W. Prechter, MA
Psychology Extern

Ms. Prechter is a Psychology Extern from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she is working towards a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. Her main areas of interest include contemporary relational theory, existential theory, and dream interpretation. She is also interested in issues related to feminism and diversity.
