:.For scans of TLC plates:.

i) Modify the ‘brightness’ (icon of the sun) by making the image as dark as possible (drag the slide bar to the left).
ii) Modify the ‘contrast’ (black/white icon) by gradually moving the slide bar to the right until you are able to see the outline of all of the spots of the plate clearly.
iii) You may be able to improve the image by increasing saturation if you scanned the TLC plate with a paper towel behind it.
When you close the scan make sure to save changes!

:.Resizing your Image:.

* Do not do this until you have scanned and modified all of the images you will be working with. This will save you time as you will only have to do this step once.

1) In the PhotoBase software highlight all of the images you wish to use.
- 1b) To select multiple images at a time that are not next to each other simply hold the control key while clicking on the desired images.
2) From the menu bar at the top click ‘Image’ > ‘Batch Process’
3) Modify the settings as follows:

Uncheck the box by ‘Rename’
Check the ‘Resize’ box along with the ‘Maintain image proportion’ box
For “New image size” select 1080x1024 or smaller
Check the ‘Convert’ box and set new file format to “JPEG”
Under Source select “Apply to selected images”
Under Destination create a new folder on the desktop by clicking browse and then the ‘new folder button’. Type in desired folder name.

Click OK, in a few seconds all of your pictures will be in the new folder your just specified in a size small enough to be uploaded to the wikispaces site without issue.

:.Inverting your Image:.

It is suggested that users Invert the image COLOR to increase the contrast and detail of faint low resolution images, such as the TLC plates.
Any image processing software has this feature built in.
