College of Arts and Sciences Available Faculty PositionsNortheastern Illinois University is a comprehensive state university of over 12,000 commuter students located on a 67-acre campus in a residential neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago. Applications are invited for the following tenure-track faculty positions: Art History - The specific area of expertise is open, but the position will involve teaching a broad range of topics on non-Western art. Responsibilities will include teaching introductory through advanced undergraduate art history courses; developing new courses; department advising; and service to the department, college, and university. Post-doctoral experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses, physical chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate level and supervise graduate students doing research toward a M.S. degree as well as contribute to the overall service component of the department and the university. Qualified individuals will possess a strong background in core linguistics, with the ability to effectively teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. Successful candidates must have a commitment to multicultural course content and the integration of technology in the music education curriculum. The new faculty member will be expected to serve on departmental committees and to conduct research/scholarly activity. Qualifications include an earned doctorate and at least 3 years of successful K-12 elementary/choral teaching experience. In addition, successful college teaching experience preferred. Send to Dr. R. P-varmanelson@neiu.edu Political Science – Political Science - Public Law - Applicants must have a PhD. in political science and be broadly trained in American Government with a teaching and research specialization in constitutional law and the judicial process. The successful candidate will be able to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in these areas and be able to teach upper-level courses in another field that meets the department's teaching needs, such as comparative politics or other subfields of American Politics. The department supports innovative pedagogy and the candidate may also be asked to teach in the university's First Year Experience program. The successful candidate should have an urban framework for research and teaching sociology classes that contributes to the Department’s emphasis on public sociology. The candidate should also demonstrate a community orientation and commitment with a view to enhancing and deepening debate about social trends and societal changes.
