The Pilsen Alliance:
Casa Aztlán helps to create the Pilsen Alliance
that is located in the Building. The purpose of the Pilsen
Alliance is organizing community residents in order to provide
them a voice in the development of the area. Four TIFS
and the University of Illinois expansion surround
Pilsen. Community residents haven't participated in this
project and also are suffering from lack of transportation
and city services. The Pilsen Alliance is seeking community
participation in its future.
Art and Culture:
Since its foundation, Casa Aztlán has served as
an arts Mecca for the Pilsen Community. Casa Aztlán
helped the muralist movement grow and currently houses the
HACE program, Pros-arts, Nahui-Ollin,
and the theater group La Cuerda Floja. Most recently
Casa Aztlán opened the Calmecac Art Gallery
to exhibit the artwork of local, national and international
artists.
An integral part of the cultural activities of Casa Aztlán
is the Viva Aztlán Festival defined by experts
as one of the most ethnic festivals in Chicago.
