BASICS FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES IN BUSINESS

Foundation Courses

Foundation Courses are basic skills courses that must be completed prior to enrollment in upper-division (300-level) business courses. Course prerequisites are listed at the end of course descriptions in the University's Academic Catalog.  The Foundation Courses are:

ENGL 101  Writing I  3 hrs
ENGL 102 Writing II 3 hrs
MATH 165 Finite Math 3 hrs
MATH 167  Business Calculus   4 hrs
ECON 217* Principles of Microeconomics  3 hrs
ACTG 201 * Introduction to Financial Accounting  3 hrs
ACTG 202 * Introduction to Managerial Accounting 3 hrs
  BLAW 285 *  Legal Environment of Business 3 hrs

Total Hours for Foundation Courses 

25 hrs

* Foundation Courses that are also Core Courses

 

CORE COURSES

Core Courses are requirements that are common to all College of Business and Management major programs. Four of the Core Courses are also Foundation Courses (*).  Please check course descriptions in the University's Academic Catalog for any prerequisites.  The Core Courses are:

ACTG 201 * Introduction to Financial Accounting  3 hrs
ACTG 202 * Introduction to Managerial Accounting 3 hrs
  BLAW 285 *  Legal Environment of Business 3 hrs
ECON 215    Principles of Macroeconomics  3 hrs
ECON 217* Principles of Microeconomics  3 hrs
ABF 350     Management Information Systems        3 hrs
FINA 360    Principles of Financial Management I     3 hrs
MKTG 350 Principles of Marketing     3 hrs
MNGT 368 Business Statistics 3 hrs
MNGT 370 Managing Global Business Organizations (Writing Intensive **) 3 hrs
MNGT 377 Production/Operations Management              3 hrs
MNGT 379 Operations Research  3 hrs

** Writing Intensive courses are a University program to assure good writing skills and have assignments
       that are graded for writing ability as well as course content.

 

FINA 360, MNGT 370, MKTG 350, and MNGT 368 are considered gateway courses.
