PROGRAM ADVISING FOR UNDERGRADUATES
Undergraduate Programs
COBM Home Page

The College of Business and Management employs a full-time staff of professional academic advisors to guide you toward successful completion of your business degree. The Program Advisors can help you meet the College's program requirements, transfer course credits from other colleges and universities, declare your business major or minor, apply for graduation, and find answers to any questions you have about College undergraduate degree programs, standards, and requirements.

PROGRAM ADVISING OFFICE

The College of Business and Management Program Advisors are located in room 0006, on the east side of the lower level of the Classroom Building. It's a good idea to make an appointment before you visit, but the advisors do try to accommodate walk-ins if at all possible.

ADVISING HOURS

The Program Advising office is usually open from 8:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday through Thursday during the first two weeks of each semester, and is also open until 7:00 P.M. each Tuesday and Wednesday whenever school is in session. At all other times, the office operates from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

CONTACTING AN ADVISOR

To make an appointment or to contact an advisor, call (773) 442-6111 from outside the University. If you're on campus, dial extension 6111. The Program Advisors welcome e-mail communication, and will respond promptly to your message or question. Address e-mail to P-Advise@neiu.edu

PREPARING FOR AN ADVISING SESSION

To help you go where you want to go, the Program Advisors need to know where you are now and where you've been. The first time you visit an Advisor, please be prepared to supply:

  • Evaluation of Transfer Credit: If you've earned course credits at another college or university, please bring a copy of the Evaluation of Transfer Credit form that you received from the Northeastern's Admissions and Records Office shortly after you were admitted.
  • Course Descriptions/Syllabi for Transferred Courses: You may need to provide course descriptions and syllabi for courses you've taken at other schools. The College does not automatically accept credit for business courses taken elsewhere, even if the University grants you credit for those courses. It's your responsibility to contact the schools and make arrangements to have this material on hand at the time of your appointment.
  • Northeastern Grade Reports (Transcripts): The Program Advisors can access information about your progress at Northeastern, but it's sometimes helpful if you bring a current grade report or transcript anyway.

A good practice is to keep a folder of your academic history to bring to each advisement session.
