Types of Electronic Portfolios

Electronic Portfolios can be utilized in different settings, with different purposes and be personalized for each situation; though the project must have well-developed guidelines and an integrated role in the curriculum to truly be successful.

Working Portfolio

This contains projects the student is working on or has recently completed.

·        Assignments can be quickly scanned in and assessed by others (i.e. peers, parents) and provide a forum for instant feedback.

·         High access is vital to this type of electronic portfolio.

Display Portfolio

This showcases samples of the student's best work.

·                    Large projects or papers would be well-rewarded by being displayed on the web.

·                    The internet could be viewed as a display gallery, rather than highlight the communication potential.

·                    Low access would only be necessary for this type.

Assessment Portfolio

This presents work demonstrating that the student has met specific learning goals and requirements.

·                    Can be integrated in to both assignments quite easily by using templates for the students to access and connecting their work with the descriptors.

·                    Would require more access time the more this attribute is focused upon.
