Giving Back To Your Community

Community organizations are civil society non-profits that operate within a single local community. The rising need for services, coupled with Americans' willingness and ability to give, has led a growing number of people to establish their own nonprofits.

Helping Yourself Help The World

The world of voluntourism is an amazing and an exciting new way to travel while giving back to others. By combining volunteerism and tourism, programs can enhance the overall travel experience while connecting volunteers to the people and culture of a chosen destination in a unique and special way.

Donations

While the current downturn in the economy has curbed our spending, donations to charity are not necessarily disappearing. A World Vision survey released Monday found that though U.S. adults plan to rein in their gift spending this year, they are more likely to give a charitable gift.

The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, found that in the current economic climate seven in 10 adults will spend less on holiday presents this year and about half, 49 percent, are more likely to give to charity.

"It means American giving is pretty resilient and that they are pretty dedicated about the causes they give to," said Justin Greeves, Harris Interactive's senior vice president of public affairs and policy research. That propensity to give remains steadfast in periods of economic turmoil, even though people may give less.
