Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc

Pretty Pi Nu Chapter

Chapter history

During the Fall semester of 1989, the idea of starting a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha on the campus of Northeastern Illinois University came to life. Danielle Lorraine Porch and Carmen Nicole Hampton felt that Northeastern needed a vehicle that would allow the African American women on campus to work together. Alpha Kappa Alpha was that vehicle.

Porch and Hampton approached NEIU's administration and Xi Nu Omega, a local graduate chapter, with their desire to start a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha on NEIU's campus.

On April 28, 1991, Porch and Hampton were initiated by the Xi Nu Omega Chapter of

Alpha Kappa Alpha as general members. That same year, Xi Nu Omega graciously consented to sponsor an additonal chapter, thus paving the way for what was to become Pi Nu Chapter.

Porch and Hampton recruited other interested women, thus the dream of establishing a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha on NEIU's campus became a reality.

On March 21, 1992, Pi Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered.
