Performed statistical tests comparing technical trading systems, developed spreadsheet templates for undergraduate finance courses (see working paper in the section of publications). Developed Excel and Quattro Pro spreadsheet templates (Moving Averages, Channel Breakout, Bollinger Band mechanical trading systems) for undergraduate finance courses. Spreadsheet templates allowed a student to import stock quotes, to generate buy sell signals, to compute profits of trade and to perform elementary statistical analysis of trades. The templates were built using macro commands for Quarto Pro and VBA for Excel. |

Responsible for setting up problems for programmers, management of development, management of implementation , signing of contracts, financial management. Supervised staff of five programmers. Established and implemented policies for programmers, implementation consultants, salespeople, created distribution network. - Focused on building sales force and consultants, because of the high deficit of qualified people. - Trained salespeople using monetary resources of government, sponsoring retraining of unemployed; - Established partnership with principal customers with an intention to create dealers; - Trained, provided certification of dealers; - Organized interaction and contacts of programmers with dealers and customers; - Visited sites of principal customers, such as government, time to time; - Traveled to far regions, organized workshops and trading shows. |

Summary of the product: Integrated networked accounting system for non-profit organizations. Provided accounting from source documents (invoices, checks, bank statements, etc...) to balance sheet and statement(s) of revenues and expenditures. The system embedded flexible reporting system, with the possibility of a user to create/modify various reports. It is in use at over 200 organizations: hospitals, school districts, city and district governments in the city of Ekaterinburg, in Sverdlovsk region, and in other regions of Russia. Several certified distributors sell and implement the software in the Urals and Siberia. The largest number of users at single site is 21. First version was launched in 1995, but was redesigned in 1996 due to adopted changes of accounting regulations. My duties: project leader, development and implementation, programmer-analyst, Inventory Module. - Developed model of functionality and database structure; - Developed core methods for database support and user interface (see, for example, http://www.neiu.edu/~agkanali/Clipper/kbmark.html); - Developed basic methods for flexible reporting system; - Supervised development of the trial version; - Communicated with customers to adjust the model; - Redesigned model and database structure to include adjustments from trial implementations; - Supervised programmers to make adjustments; - Promoted product to key customers, i.e. signed contracts, negotiated discounts, terms of payments, free installations; - Trained users of the product at large strategic customers; - Educated and trained sales force featuring issues of non-for-profit accounting; - Trained dealers on their sites as well as through workshops in Training Center. |

Summary of the product: Network - supporting development tool for fast and convenient creation of database applications for DOS and Novell Netware. Used database file-, database field-, table-, form-, and report dictionaries. Provided storage of the application components in database and text files, making the application opened for customizations. Utilized exchange of source data modification messages among workstations. Provided user-friendly interface for monitoring reference integrity of database files and building data input/edit control as well as constructing queries through selection of database records. Supplied as a library of classes to work with application components. Developed in C, C++ and Clipper in the team of five programmers. My duties: programmer-analyst, developer. - Developed a library of methods for database support for the selected records (see example of source code at http://www.neiu.edu/~agkanali/Clipper/kbmark.html); - Developed class of tables with variable number of columns, which depends on the information in the data source file; - Developed user-friendly expression builder for the class of tables with fixed number of columns. |

Was in use at over 50 organizations: hospitals, school districts, city and district governments before change of non-for-profit accounting regulations in 1996. Functionality of the system: System constituted of the following modules: Cash and Other Monetary Assets, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Inventories (Including MRP for the drug manufacturing in hospitals) Fixed Assets, General Ledger, Food Service (for hospitals, including MRP and scheduling), Dental Service (for hospitals, including order processing and payroll), Child Care (for educational institutions). History: 1992 September: Signed the contract and got an access to informational flows; 1992 December: Prepared the draft of project description contacting with customers and studying documents (instruction had been provided), and real informational flows, developed foundation of the database support modules; 1993 February: Installed first trial version of the program: Inventory Accounting and Fixed Assets Accounting; 1993 July: Released second trial version of the program Inventory Accounting and Fixed Assets Accounting; 1993 June: First trial version of the module: General Ledger and Financial Statements; 1993 October: Installed trial version of Cash Accounting; 1993 December: Installed working version of Inventory Accounting, Fixed Assets Accounting; 1994 January: Installed working version of Cash Accounting; 1994 January: Installed first version of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable; 1994 March: Installed the program for other customers; 1994 June: Corrected the program after trial implementations; 1994 August: Prepared the User's Guide, began advertising; 1994 October: Presented the product at the regional exhibition "Informatika-1994"; My duties: project leader, full cycle of development: - Collected user requirements; - Designed database structure for all modules based on instructions and collected information; - Developed the Inventory module, supervised development of other modules based on the model, tested it; - Installed trial version(s) for the customer; - Implemented trial version(s) for finding bugs and obtaining corrections and additions; - Made corrections to the functional requirements and database structure; - Made corrections to the program code, tested it; - Implemented corrected version. |
