Why it's Important to Declare a Major -Soon!

It's a good idea to decide on a major as soon as possible. Some majors take a longer time to complete, others have very specific General Education requirements: the sooner you decide on a major, the less likely you will be to take unnecessary classes.

What classes will you be taking this Fall?
Most incoming freshmen start with an English Composition course and a Mathematics course. If you plan on attending full-time, you will need to select two or three additional courses. These are usually chosen from the General Education courses listed below. Full-time students take a minimum of four courses and a maximum of five courses their first semester, totaling between 12 and 16 credit hours.

Before you come to the Advising/Registration workshop:

1. Take a look at the General Education classes listed below

2. Pick at least five classes from a variety of subjects that look interesting ( Some courses may have prerequisites which will prevent you from taking them your first semester). Be sure to include at least one FYE course in your selection

3. Write them down on a sheet of paper

4. Bring your list to the Advising/Registration workshop

You and your advisor will use your list as a starting point in building your schedule.
