Experience

I serve currently as Dean of Online Studies for the Sullivan University System, Kentucky's largest private university.  I oversee academic and technology functions of the Global e-Learning area that provides approximately 400 online and blended courses, 18 degree programs and 5 certificate programs for over 3,000 students. I was previously the Coordinator of Learning Technologies at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago IL.

During the past 21 years in the field of instructional technology and distance learning, I have taught at the middle school, high school, community college and university levels and have served at all levels in my chosen field (teacher, trainer, staff developer, multimedia developer, instructional designer and manager). I have taught face-to-face, blended and fully online courses, have helped other colleagues create and teach online courses, and have developed a regionally accredited online masters degree program.

I am very grateful to have elected by my professional colleagues as President of the Division of Distance Learning of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology.  I am serving a three-year term as President-Elect (2005-06), President (2006-07) and Past President (2007-08).  I am a Past President of the Community College Association for Instruction and Technology, Past Vice President of Cahuilla Computer Using Educators, Inc., and am active in several other professional associations.  I serve on the editorial board of the Quarterly Review of Distance Education, a refereed scholarly journal.

In addition, I regularly perform outside technology training, multimedia/ instructional development, website development, research and other consultation services.  It has been my privilege to be able to work as a consultant/contractor to Fortune 500 corporations, government agencies, the U.S. Military, small businesses, law enforcement agencies, community organizations, K-12 schools, colleges and universities.

Personal

Now comes the important information:  I am very happily married to Teresa, my bride of over two decades. Our lives have been blessed abundantly by our four daughters: Heather, Kellie, Lisa and Emily and by the recent adoption of our Serena and Alex.

In my "spare" time, I enjoy playing one of my several guitars.  My current collection includes a 1967 Rickenbacker 360/12 12-string electric, a 1967 Hofner Beatle bass, a Martin DX1E acoustic-electric, an early 80s Ibanez Artist AR-50 electric, a 70s Fender F-65 acoustic, a Dean classical acoustic, a 70s Fender F-55-12 12-string acoustic a Jay Turser Beatle Bass, and a Washburn banjo.  My principal guitar amplifier is a mid 80s Mesa Boogie Studio Combo.  I also have a nice Yamaha drum kit.
