While we encourage students to come see us for their basic health concerns, it is ALWAYS important to remember that our office is not equipped to handle medical emergencies. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. Students must be currently enrolled at NEIU, with a valid NEIU I.D., in order to receive services from Student Health Services. Students do not need to be covered under NEIU's Student Health Insurance Plan in order to use these services. The Student Health Service fee supports our office.
Note: An appointment is needed (see Appointment Scheduling) for all services except over-the-counter medications (such as aspirin) and basic first aid.
The following services are offered to students:
- Basic First Aid Care of Minor Illness
- Emergency Contraception
- Equipment/Video Loan
- Smoking Cessation
- Suture Removal
- Pap Smears
- Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
- Birth Control
- Menstrual Disorders
- Minor Gynecological Problems
NOTE: Pap exams are covered by most insurance policies. Please call us for more details at (773)442-5800.
Screening services offered to students:
- Blood pressure
- Blood Sugar
- Dipstick Urinalysis - check for infection
- Hemoglobin - check for anemia
- Rapid Strep A
- Tuberculosis (TB) - Off-campus TB test referral form

Students can obtain free condoms from Health Services. Male condoms, female condoms, dental dams, lubricant and latex-free male condoms are available. Our Advanced Practice Nurse can prescribe most forms of birth control. We also have several oral contraceptives available for purchase within our office with a prescription. Oral contraceptives available are:
- Plan B - $20
- Emoquette (Generic for Desogen) - $10
- Tri-Previfem (Generic for Ortho-tri-cyclen) - $10
- Aubra (same as Sronyx) - $10
For all services that require payment such as oral contraceptives, etc. CASH AND CHECKS made payable to NEIU are the ONLY forms of payment accepted. We DO NOT accept credit/debit cards.
The Stress-Free Zone is provided during Finals week (during the Fall and Spring semesters) as a place for students to relax and reduce the stress of exams.
