About the Service Center

For over 20 years, the William Itkin Children’s Service Center at Northeastern has provided diagnostic testing and instructional services to families from all over the Chicagoland area. Supervised by teaching faculty in the Department of Special Education, graduate students perform an internship as educational clinicians and offer formal testing to identify learning difficulties in children, 6 to 18 years of age. The Service Center evaluates children (in either English or Spanish) in the areas of reading, mathematics, and written language, as well as providing emotional/behavioral supports.

For qualifying families, the Service Center can provide a short-term individual education plan based on the strengths and needs of the child and deliver instruction in a one-to-one setting for a maximum of four (4) hours per week for the duration of 8 to 10 weeks.

Fees and How to Enroll

The Service Center offers such services to residents of the City of Chicago and its surrounding communities at nominal fees. However, due to limited space and availability, all services are offered on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in reserving a space for your child, please complete the online application (see link to the left) or contact the Service Center for more information.
