Background 

Sandra Beyda-Lorie (Ph.D. Purdue University) is Professor at Northeastern Illinois University’s Department of Special Education in Chicago, Illinois and has served as Department Chair since 2008. In collaboration with program faculty she has supported the expansion of the department’s high quality program offerings to include an advanced master’s degree in special education (LBS II), the university’s first online program leading to special education (LBS I) endorsement, and a second undergraduate night program at the university’s El Centro campus. She considers herself a servant leader dedicated to developing and facilitating undergraduate and graduate learning experiences that position program graduates to transform the lives of individuals with disabilities. Her research focus is special educator and administrative practices that honor the social and emotional development of students with exceptional learning needs and simultaneously facilitate positive academic learning outcomes.
