An initiative in 2012-2013 added Geographic Information System (GIS) and mapping capabilities to the Department of Institutional Research and Assessment. GIS relies on data from many sources – enrollment services, institutional research, human resources, alumni affairs, census bureau, City of Chicago, U.S. Geological Survey, and more.

Data may be disaggregated by major, gender, age, ethnicity, high school of graduation, etc. as well as by distance from campus, travel times, and other spatial attributes.

The links below are to the GIS/Mapping workplan, samples of maps/reports, and a dictionary of the data elements used in GIS/Mapping.  These maps are created from real Northeastern data. Use them, or complete the Data Request Form to request a custom map.
