Northeastern awarded grant from Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust

Northeastern Illinois University, in collaboration with Chicago City Colleges’ Wright and Truman colleges as well as offices and schools of the Chicago Public Schools, has been awarded a $100,000 Strengthening Teacher and School Leader Preparation grant from the Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust. The official name of the project is the NEIU Generation Educator for Middle School: Refining STEM with Pedagogical Content and Literacy (NGEMS).

William Pollakov to be Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient, Commencement speaker

Northeastern Illinois University President Sharon Hahs announced on Monday, Nov. 3, that the 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient and December Commencement speaker is William Pollakov. Pollakov is president and CEO of The Pollakov Financial Group Inc., one of the premier financial services organizations in California. With 16 different divisions, the company is one of only a handful of comprehensive financial service firms in the country.

Northeastern plans events to honor veterans

Northeastern Illinois University will honor our nation’s veterans at a ceremony on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. President Sharon Hahs will address guests at the 10:30 a.m. opening ceremony, which will be followed at 11 a.m. by a moment of silence, the hanging of dog tags and laying of a wreath in the Peace Garden. This event is open to the public. Attendees are offered complimentary parking on the fourth floor of the Parking Facility from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Northeastern Vice President wins NASPA service award

Northeastern Illinois University Vice President for Student Affairs Frank E. Ross will receive the 2014 Outstanding Service to NASPA Award for Region IV-East. The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement to the student affairs profession and Region IV-East, which covers the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin, and the Canadian province of Ontario.
