Watch Pablo in Concert!
GRAMMY award winning pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler infuses his performances and arrangements with a deep knowledge of tango, having served as the music director for Astor Piazzolla's ensemble for over 10 years. In 1990, Pablo Ziegler formed his own Ensemble for New Tango, which blended classic tango rhythms with jazz improvisations, bringing a new voice to the tango lexicon. Ziegler imprints his own unique stamp on the work, using the piano percussively, coaxing atmospheric jazz harmonies out of the music, and drawing upon the rhythms of early 20th century classical music. As the Chicago Tribune notes, "There's no question that Ziegler takes the tango to levels of sophistication and refinement probably undreamed of by Piazzolla." Ziegler has found audiences for his Trio (piano, guitar, bandoneón) in jazz and tango clubs, festivals and concert halls, both internationally and throughout the US.
Praised by the New York Times as a "splendid player", Argentinean bandoneónist Héctor Del Curto has captivated the audiences around the world as a soloist and chamber musician, sharing the stage with the world–renowned tango legends Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Pugliese, pianist Pablo Ziegler, clarinetist Paquito D´Rivera, ballet dancer Julio Bocca, National Symphony Orchestra (Washington D.C.), Buenos Aires Symphony Orchestra and Teatro Colón Ballet among many others. He won Best Bandoneon Player Under 25 when he was only 17.
Also a native of Argentina, guitarist Claudio Ragazzi grew up in Buenos Aires, where by the time he was a teenager, he was already recording and performing with some of Argentina's most influential musicians including tango master Rodolfo Mederos and sharing the stage with some of Argentina’s top musicians including Luis Alberto Spinetta, Litto Nebbia and Antonio Agri. He has won numerous awards including a regional Emmy and grants from The Rockefeller Foundation, The New England Foundation for the Arts, and The Massachusetts Council for the Arts,as well as the prestigious Duke Ellington Master's Award. He's gone on to compose music for feature films, documentaries and television commercials as well as undertaking commissioned works for plays and ballets.
