Mission, Goals, and Values
Office of Student Affairs Focus Statement (adopted August 2003)
The primary mission of the Office of Student Affairs is to facilitate student learning in and out of the classroom by providing continually improving, high quality services and programs, while fostering an inclusive campus community that supports the retention and academic success of a diverse student population. The following points have been identified as focus points for all offices to work with to support to the overall mission of Student Affairs and Northeastern Illinois University.

Improve coordination and working relationships among offices and staff within Student Affairs |

Develop improved methods to support the enrollment management and retention efforts of the institution |

Strengthen relationships with faculty and academic areas to enhance student learning | MISSION
Student Affairs collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to meet student needs, support the institutional mission, and create a campus culture and community that is caring, ethical, service-oriented, and inclusive. Specifically, Student Affairs staff promotes student learning, persistence, and personal development by challenging students to grow and by providing opportunities for them to:

acquire and practice transferable leadership, decision making, problem solving and interpersonal skills; |

b) |
prepare for entrance in or advancement along a career path; |

c) |
understand and appreciate diversity, and |
|
d) |
develop their full cognitive, affective and physical potential. | Programs and services are refined and improved through ongoing evaluation and research on student learning and development.

VALUES
Our primary focus is students and their success. When we relate to students, we are patient, understanding, clear, and fair. We are skilled, innovative, energetic, and dedicated to meeting student needs. What we do and how we do it is guided by the principle of what is best for students. Student feedback is an important basis for making improvements.
