Kris Pierre
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Kris has served as the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs at Northeastern Illinois University since January 2003. Born and raised in Michigan, she has a Masters in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Ohio State University and a BA in Geography/Political Science (Urban Planning Emphasis) from Western Michigan University. Included among her job responsibilities at NEIU are oversight and coordination of assessment activities in Student Affairs, management and oversight of the overall budget for the Division, coordination of personnel issues and concerns, and serving as a troubleshooter on a wide range of issues and projects. She is active a number of university wide groups involved in improving student learning and assessment and represented Student Affairs on the Steering Committee for the Higher Learning Commission Self Study that took place in January 2007. She also represents Student Affairs on the Advisory Committee for the ERP Project, NEIUport Leadership Team, and the university’s Emergency Management Committee.
Kris spent the first 14 plus years of her career on three culturally diverse campuses in the California State University system where she worked with student activities, student unions, and new student programs areas and served on the advisory board for the graduate program in Student Development in Higher Education at Cal State, Long Beach. She returned to the Midwest in 1997 after accepting the position of Director of the First Year Experience at Minnesota State University, Mankato and later was asked to serve as the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs. She most recently served as the Director of Programs and Marketing for The Collaboration for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning in St. Paul, MN before coming to NEIU.
Kris has held leadership positions in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Association of College Unions–International, and the National Orientation Directors Association. Kris has presented and published regionally and nationally on a wide range of topics including the first year experience, developing community on culturally diverse campuses, commuter and other non-traditional student issues, assessment and evaluation, staff training and development, learning communities, budget and resource management, and developing partnerships between academic and student affairs areas.
