NEIU Orientations
Northeastern Illinois University and the Office of the Dean of Students congratulates all newly admitted students on their decision to attend NEIU! We are excited that you have chosen NEIU and hope that your experience is excellent. The Office of the Dean of Students, Enrollment Services and Advisement has planned orientation programs for you to become acquainted with NEIU and to make your life easier as a First-Year Student, Transfer Student and new Family. We know that college is an exciting and challenging time in life. With this in mind, the NEIU Orientation programs are designed to serve and support your transition and academic success.
FIRST YEAR ORIENTATION
First Year Orientation serves to help new first year students easily adjust to the college experience by getting to know how NEIU best supports their academic and professional success. All first year students entering college for the first time must attend the full day orientation from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to register for courses. View schedule here.
The First Year Orientation Program is facilitated by a team of peer leaders specifically trained to introduce students to campus life. A one-time $45.00 orientation program fee is automatically assessed to the university account. Students will become acquainted with new friends; attend workshops; have lunch; meet with their academic advisor; register for courses; hear from Colleges; learn about campus life; campus policies and procedures; student clubs and organizations, tour the beautiful campus and much more. Student enrolled to take courses in the Fall attend Summer Orientation and those enrolled for Spring courses attend orientation in December. First Year Orientation Dates: June 23, 25 - July 7,9,13,23,28,30 - August 4,6,10,11
TRANSFER ORIENTATION
Transfer Student Orientation is designed to acquaint new students to Northeastern who have previously earned academic credit. The program is coordinated with the Office of Adult and Women Student Programs. Incoming transfer students will receive information about how to register for transfer orientation via US mail. A non-refundable $35 fee is required to participate.
Transfer orientation takes place in the NEIU Student Union. Separate tracks are offered during transfer orientation for those interested in learning more about academic programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Management and the College of Education. A track for those who are undecided about their major is also provided. Depending on the track chosen the program begins either at 8:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Contact the Office of the Dean of Student at 773.442.4619 to register for Transfer Orientation. View schedule here. FAMILY ORIENTATION
We welcome families to the NEIU community to gain personal insight into the kind of university experience a student will have. NEIU values "Integrity, Excellence, Access to Opportunity, Diversity, Community, and Empowerment through Learning." The Family Orientation serves for some as a new chapter; for others a welcomed opportunity to experience that which only NEIU offers. During this program families meet and ask questions and get answers. Family Orientation covers an overview of services, university expectations, a tour of the beautiful campus and much more. The program is designed to assist you, the family, with becoming stress free about your student's academic career and overall success. View schedule here.
ORIENTATION LOCATION and PARKING
NEIU has four campus located throughout Chicago. All orientation programs will be held at the main campus located at 5500 North St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60625.
