First Year Orientation
Flash Animation of an Orientation Day
Beginning in the summer of 2008, the First Year Orientation Program, Academic Advising and Registration will be combined into a one-day experience that all entering first time freshmen will be expected to attend. During the full day program (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) students will learn about the university’s available services/programs and better understand academic expectations and university policies and procedures. They will also be introduced to tools that will assist them make a successful transition to the university. Freshmen will meet with student peer leaders and will have the opportunity to interact with faculty, staff and administrators during topical workshops, lunch, and campus tours. All entering freshmen who participate will be advised and registered for their classes on the day that they attend orientation. Beginning in June, seventeen (17) dates will be available with the last date being August 14th.
First Year Orientation Dates:
June 13, 18, 24, 26
July 8, 10, 14, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31
August 5, 7, 11, 12, 14
The date for participation is assigned by the Academic Advisement Center and will be determined by the date students complete their placement tests. Placement tests must be taken before students can take part in first year orientation program.
All students must attend orientation to register for classes. A mandatory one-time fee of $45.00 will be automatically assessed to their university account to cover the cost of the program. The fee cannot be waived. Students who do not attend their orientation date and do not cancel within 24 hours of their assigned date will be charged a rescheduling fee of $15.00. The fee will need to be paid before rescheduling.
First year students who begin in the spring semester are provided an orientation in December.

Family Orientation
Family Orientation provides family members of new students a basic introduction to university life. It is an interactive program designed to assist families understand the university’s academic expectations and requirements. It likewise includes an overview of services and programs available to students. Families are sent letters of invitation with detailed information during the summer. This program does not replace the First Year Orientation for the entering freshmen.
