Position: Project Specialist/ Educational Talent Search at NEIU Chicago Teacher’s Center
Begin Date: September 1, 2008
Description: NEIU’s Educational Talent Search has been supporting Chicago Public School students’ quest for ultimately enrolling in postsecondary institutions since 1988. Talent Search seeks a highly-motivated individual with knowledge and experience in advising middle school and secondary school students.
The Specialist will coordinate program activities at target sites; identify and document eligibility requirements of all program participants; assist tutors and graduate interns in planning tutorial activities; supervise tutors and prepare all bi-weekly, monthly, and end of year reports for the assigned target schools; provide participants with academic counseling and tutorial services; and disseminate materials about careers, financial aid, postsecondary institutions, and other vocational information, which enhance career exploration and motivate attendance to postsecondary institutions.
Qualifications: B.A. in English, reading, math, science, or social sciences field. Experience in tutoring or supervising instruction in major field. At least three years direct service experience with elementary or secondary students. Experience building and maintaining collaborative partnerships that expand opportunities for students.
