Positions: Coordinator of Student Retention and Community Outreach Northeastern Illinois University- El Centro
Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Student Retention and Community Outreach at NEIU-El Centro campus. Northeastern is a comprehensive state university located on the north side of Chicago totaling 12,000 graduate and undergraduate commuter students. About NEIU-El Centro: Northeastern Illinois University-El Centro campus provides educational, career, and cultural opportunities primarily, though not exclusively, to the Latino community. NEIU-El Centro is located in the northwest side of Chicago, just four miles south of the main campus. NEIU-El Centro makes available the general education program of the University to students who are interested in taking classes primarily during the evening hours and/or on the weekends. NEIU-El Centro also offers courses from the Educational Leadership Program leading to a Masters Degree and Illinois Type 75 Certification for educators working in bilingual schools and programs or teachers with research interests in the Latino community.
Position Responsibilities: The Coordinator of Student Retention and Community Outreach at NEIU-El Centro reports to the Director of NEIU-El Centro and is responsible for student recruitment and retention, admissions, and academic advising; organizing student academic and co-curricular activities; initiating and maintaining contacts with the Latino community; organizing and implementing community programs; serves a liaison between NEIU-El Centro and community; and represents NEIU-El Centro in departmental, University, and community activities.
Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess a Masters degree in Higher Education or related field and have experience in academic support programs and community programming preferably in a metropolitan higher education institution. Bilingual (Spanish/English) with in-depth understanding of the educational, economic, and cultural needs of Latino students is required. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent communication skills; have a valid Illinois Driver’s license and must be available to work evenings and weekend hours.
