Position: Coordinator for Club Advising, Programs and Services Student Activities Office

Description: Under the umbrella the Division for Student Life, the Student Activities Office is an active participant in the university’s strategic plan targeted efforts of ensuring student success. http://strategicplan.neiu.edu. The Coordinator for Club Advising, Programs, & Services provides leadership for the key area of student clubs and organizations advising, event planning, and budget management structure. This position assists in the overall management of a Student Activities Office.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include oversight of the Northeastern Programming Board, 70+ student club/organization budgets, student leader training and development, large university events supported by the Student Activities Office, and the event planning and space request process for clubs and organizations. The Coordinator for Club Advising, Programs & Services directly supervises the Graphic Arts Center staff, 4 programming board coordinators and 10 team assistants who are responsible for community building campus-wide programs. Further, this position chairs the committee for the university welcome week (Fall Into Fun Week) and the First-Year Student Welcome Day (Class Act) as a part of the university’s student retention and community building initiative. In collaboration with the First-Year Experience Program, this position also coordinates the Chicago Live initiative which supports the academic mission of student success through providing opportunities for first-year students to experience urban Chicago’s arts, culture, and enterprises. The Coordinator collaborates directly with the Assistant Director for Student Activities on student leadership programs including Alternative Spring Break and service learning initiatives. Further, collaborative relationships include the Student Activities Office financial manager concerning the club funding and budgets and with the Student Union and University Events administrative staff concerning student club space event space needs. Other collaborative relationships include Facilities, Dean of Students Office, Public Safety, Accounts Payable, the University Budget Office, and Purchasing. The Coordinator for Club Advising, Programs, & Services reports to the Director of Student Activities.
Qualifications: A qualified candidate must have a Master’s degree (master’s degree in Higher Education preferred) with direct experience in event planning (development, implementation, and assessment) and working with student leaders in a university setting. Further, the candidate must have knowledge of student leadership development and possess budgeting experience. Requisite skills include the ability to interact effectively with diverse student populations in a positive and empowering manner, strong communication and organization skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge in the area of assessment. Specifically, the successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to promote a success-oriented learning environment. Previous experience working in a diverse urban setting is preferred.
