Position: Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management
Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and is responsible for four major areas: Maintenance and Construction, Buildings and Grounds, Heating Plant/Engineering, and Environmental Health and Safety Coordination. The Assistant Vice President is also responsible for the operation of the Facilities Management business office. Responsibilities include facility planning, architectural and engineering services, remodeling and capital renewal programs, building and grounds maintenance, central heating and chilling with electrical cogeneration, energy conservation, recycling programs, and coordination of University compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
Specific Duties Include:
- Prepares and manages the Facilities Management operating budget of approximately $7.0 million;
- Works with campus leadership and constituents and the State Capital Development Board (if applicable) in the programming and planning of new state funded buildings, as well as renovation and remodeling of existing facilities, including parking facilities;
- Supervises the construction of new, renovated and remodeled facilities;
- Coordinates and actively communicates work involving Facilities Management with University departments;
- Provides leadership and supervises the management and operation of the heating plant and the campus energy management program;
- Provides leadership and direction to assure that the University’s buildings and grounds enhance the University’s instructional mission and are safe, clean, functional and attractive;
- Assists in union negotiations;
- Provides leadership with the campus recycling program;
- Ensures the regular inspection of all facilities, including three sites located away from the main campus, and develops appropriate responses to identified needs;
- Establishes and maintains accurate historical records to aid in the implementation of ongoing programs and long-range planning objectives;
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and city occupational health, safety and environmental regulations and reporting requirements; and
- Investigates outside funding and internal operational improvements to maximize and supplement the University’s Facilities Management budget.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, management or business administration with preference given to individuals with advanced degrees and/or degrees in engineering or architectural fields. Candidates must have at least five years of senior management experience in some aspect of facilities management and demonstrate the ability to supervise and manage a large, diverse and predominately unionized work force. Candidates must have the ability to conceptualize and develop long-term facilities plans consistent with the University’s strategic plan. Candidates also should have experience in planning and supervising significant construction projects and exhibit good written and oral communication skills.
