Course Overloads
FALL AND SPRING During the Fall/Spring semesters, a student may register for the maximum of 16 credit hours. No student may carry a course overload during the first semester of study at Northeastern.
SUMMER During the Summer semesters, a student may register for a maximum of 14 credit hours. No student may carry a course overload during the first semester of study at Northeastern.
OVERLOAD REQUIREMENTS Approval for a course overload is required under the following conditions: An enrollment of more than 16 hours (Fall/Spring) or more than 14 hours (Summer)
To be considered for a course overload students must: Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Pass the English Competency Exam by the student’s fourth term of enrollment. Write a petition explaining the compelling reason the overload is necessary. Submit the letter of petition to the appropriate college Dean or Department.
Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences Undergraduates who have officially declared a major or pre-major in the College of Arts & Sciences Undergraduates who have not yet declared a major or pre-major Undergraduates and Graduate students-at-large.
Dean of the College of Business and Management Undergraduates who have officially declared a major or pre-major in the College of Business & Management
Dean of the College of Education Undergraduates who have officially declared a major or pre-major in the College of Education Graduate students-at-large officially admitted to a certification program
Dean of the Graduate College Graduates admitted to a Masters degree program
Director of Non Traditional Degree Programs Undergraduates officially admitted to the Board of Governors/BA program or the University Without Walls program
The Dean’s office may delete a course(s) from a student’s record if permission is not granted.
