Program Participation
Students enrolled in the competency-based University Without Walls (UWW) Program gain academic recognition for previously acquired college-equivalent knowledge and skills.
Each UWW student, with input from an academic advisor (a NEIU faculty member), community advisor and the UWW advisor, develops a Learning Contract (LC) that adresses prior and proposed learning in each of UWW's three programmatic areas: depth, breadth, and effective communication.
The Learning Contract should be developed during the student's first semester because progress in future semesters will be measured by completion of goals listed in the LC. The LC must be fully approved by the student's academic advisor, community advisor and the UWW program. Fulfilling the terms of a Learning Contract is a prerequisite for convening the Graduation Review Board.
UWW students must register as full-time NEIU students. For each semester of enrollment in the UWW Program, the student must submit a Semester Report that specifies learning activities and accomplishments of the semester and is accompanied by documentation of the learning. Students who make satisfactory academic progress in the program receive a designation of complete for the semester, the designation is equivalent to a minimum of "C" level work.
