Assistant professor, teacher education, earned her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Illinois at Chicago, researching multiracial identity in children's literature. She began her teaching career in an international school in Bangladesh, and then taught fourth and fifth grades in Chicago Public Schools for 10 years. Her current research interests focus on issues of identity construction, multicultural education, and children's and young adult literature.
