The Internet should be considered an additional resource for the job searcher and not a replacement for any of the traditional methods, which include networking, attending job & career fairs, responding to positions listed with Northeastern's Placement Office, following recommendations made by faculty members, responding to advertisements in newspapers, trade journals or other publications, and utilizing personnel/temporary agencies.

Hoover's Online One of the best overall resources for getting information on public companies. At a glance you can get contact information, a snapshot of what the company does, up-to-date news links, and more. Its Career Center is a good place to see if there are openings at the company being researched.
Fortune Magazine Online The online version of Time Inc. New Media's Fortune magazine has an impressive amount of information on many companies. National Association of Colleges & Employers Many links to career information as well as employer information. This is the professional organization for career services and placement professional personnel for colleges and universities nationwide.

Search for Internships
Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) National Internship Program The HACU National Internship Program recruits college students for paid summer and semester-long internships at federal agencies and private corporations in Washington D.C. and throughout the country. These ten and fifteen week internship programs give college students direct experience in a diversity of careers in the federal and corporate sectors. Participants are undergraduate and graduate students, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and are active in community and campus activities.
Walt Disney World College Program - Orlando, Florida Imagine an internship with one of the most exciting companies in the world, where friendships grow, opportunities are made and futures begin. The Walt Disney World College Program is a paid internship experience for any college student across the United States and Puerto Rico. To be considered you must be a student in good standing (2.0 GPA or higher) and have completed at least one semester of university work. ALL MAJORS ARE CONSIDERED. Walt Disney recruiters visit over 250 campuses each fall and spring, including Northeastern Illinois University. You can apply on line, but you also must attend a campus presentation. The Presidential Management Intern Program The Presidential Management Intern (PMI) Program has been attracting outstanding master's and doctoral-level students to the Federal service. The PMI Program is your passport to a unique and rewarding career experience with the Federal Government. It provides you with an opportunity to apply the knowledge you acquired from graduate study. As a PMI, your assignment may involve domestic or international issues, technology, science, criminal justice, health, financial management, and many other fields in support of public service programs.

Rising Star Internships Rising Star allows for searches according to sector or field of study. Employers search for interns on-line. You can post your resume here for a small fee.
The Washington Center for Internships Since 1975, the Washington Center has provided over 24,000 students with internship experience in Washington, D.C. The Center promotes future leadership for the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
UNCF/UPS Corporate Scholars Program The UNCF/UPS Corporate Scholars Program gives students a double opportunity; scholarships that provide financial support for college and internships that offer real-world work experience. To be eligible you must be a 2nd semester sophomore or junior majoring in computer science, mechanical engineering,information technology or marketing; have a minimum GPA of 3.0; attend a 4 year institution; be African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian American. Illinois Career Resource Network This site is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In addition to searching for job openings you can use this site to check the occupations with the most openings, find the largest local employers, explore salary/wage rate, find information regarding training programs, financial aid and much more. Monster Board This site offers an overview of employers and several interfaces for job hunting. You can search by company name, location, discipline, industry, job title, or combinations of these. The employer overview gives some background information about the company selected, its products and services, and employee benefits. This service also has a tremendous database of information for the job seeker and the employer. You can register your resume with the Monster Board or use its online application to apply for positions listed here.
The CareerBuilder Network Search for job leads by region, industry, salary range and keywords. Listings are extensive.
Career Magazine This online career information magazine includes job listings, employer profiles, a searchable resume bank, a directory of recruiters, and news and articles related to today's job hunt. Career Magazine also scans and archives job announcements from several Usenet newsgroups to permit easy searching and access. The Jobnet Forum allows you to discuss your job search and ask questions.
NationJob This database contains listings for thousands of jobs open around the US (primarily in the Midwest), and you may specify conditions that will show you only the jobs you may be interested in. Career Web An on-line service that is easy to use. It offers qualified candidates the opportunity to browse outstanding career opportunities. Point Survey has rated it among the top ten sites on the Net. Further development is under way with new listings and services.
Chicago Sun-Times Searches the want ads using keywords and job categories. Want ads are updated daily.
Chicago Tribune Includes help wanted ads for up to the prior three weeks of Sunday want ads. Close-up look at top employers. Feature articles about employers, technology, and businesses. Includes a customer service section. Yahoo's Listings of Employment Information Wonderful service arranged by broad categories that subdivide. It is very easy to navigate and it has a search engine you can use to find information within the server.

Wall Street Journal Careers This database is strongest in executive and professional positions. The job alert feature lets you know by E-mail when a new employer has posted openings to the site.
