Position: Tenure Track Poisition in Curriculum and Instruction for Secondary Education
Starting Date: August 2013
Rank: Assistant Professor
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
The Department: The Department of Educational Inquiry and Curriculum Studies is home to programs in Educational Foundations, Inner City Studies Education, and Secondary Education. Whether seeing to complete initial Type 09 or Type 10 teaching certification, to expand their classroom repertoire, to become educators in alternative contexts, or to enhance their understanding of the historical, political and social underpinnings of education in and beyond the inner city, our students leave their work in our department uniquely prepared as reflective, collaborative, and transformative education professionals. The Secondary Education Program offers professional sequences for undergraduate students seeking initial 6-12 certification in Biology, English, History, or Math, or K-12 certification in Spanish, French, Art, or Music. The program also offers graduate coursework leading to a Master of Arts in Teaching plus certification or a Master of Science in Instruction in secondary English Language Arts.
Required Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis on secondary education or earned doctorate in related field; at least three years of relevant teaching experience at the middle or high school level; and eligibility for Illinois teaching certification in at least one subject area offered by the program. Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse populations and ability to work collaboratively across K-12, university, and community settings are also required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are expected. ABD candidates with anticipated completion date prior to September 1, 2013, will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate coursework in secondary curriculum, methods, assessment and/or instructional technology, or experience supervising candidates in field experiences in secondary settings is preferred. Applicants should be familiar with program accreditation and teacher certification processes. Facility with technologies related to instruction and research is highly desired.
Responsibilities: Faculty members are expected to engage in teaching, relevant scholarly activity, and service to the university, to the community and to their professional field. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in secondary education curriculum and methods, assessment, and discipline-specific methods, depending upon field of expertise, as well as supervision of candidates’ field experiences. Participation in program review and accreditation processes is expected.

Faculty Position: Tenure Track Position in K-12 Physical Education/Health Education
Rank: Assistant Professor

Department: The Department of Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (HPERA) at Northeastern Illinois University offer the Bachelor of Arts in undergraduate Physical Education (K-12), Secondary Health Education (6-12), Health and Wellness, and a Master of Science in Exercise Science. The College of Education is accredited by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and all programs are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Required Qualifications: Minimal qualifications include: earned doctorate in Physical Education Pedagogy and appropriate K-12 teaching experience. Experience working in a diverse environment required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching within a K-12 Physical Education teacher preparation program that is NCATE accredited is preferred. Applicants should be familiar with teacher education program accreditation, teacher certification, and relevant instructional, professional, and research technologies. Experience teaching physical education methods courses, physical education curriculum and/or assessment courses, adapted physical education, and student teaching supervision are desired.
Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities will include courses in physical education pedagogy, adapted physical education, supervision of student teachers, and other assigned courses as required by the department. Faculty members are expected to engage in teaching, to pursue scholarly activity, and to engage in service both at the university and their professional field.

Faculty Position: Tenure Track Position in Human Resource Development (HRD)
Start Date: May 2013
Rank: Assistant Professor
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Program: The Human Resource Development Program (in the Department of Educational Leadership and Development, College of Education) offers a B.A. and M.A. in Human Resource Development (HRD). Five full-time faculty members currently teach weekday and evening classes.
Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in HRD or a closely related field from an accredited institution; background knowledge to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in instructional technology, instructional design, evaluation, and needs assessment with knowledge of adult learning theory, strategic planning, and organization development; experience working as a training/HRD professional; ability to introduce and market the newly approved HRD program at the University Center of Lake County; articulated scholarly research agenda; and experience with graduate and/or undergraduate student advising.
Responsibilities: This position requires the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in HRD at the University Center of Lake County (UCLC), Grayslake, IL as well as on the NEIU Chicago main campus; coordinate and launch the newly approved HRD Bachelor of Arts Program at UCLC; advise undergraduate students at UCLC; establish working relationships with HRD professionals; develop program/curriculum; and engage in scholarly activities related to HRD.
