Requirements to Student Teach
Secondary Education Clinical Experience Candidates
To move forward in the secondary education sequence for the major clinical candidates must: • Be admitted to the COE • Have a 2.75 GPA in PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COURSES • Have a 2.50 GPA in MAJOR [verified by major advisor] • Have no more than 9 credit hours in major left [verified by major advisor] • Complete EDFN 305/405, 306/406, and 307/407 with a “C” or better • Complete SCED 301 or ELED 311 [music majors] with a “C” or better • Proof of passing the ILLINOIS SUBJECT MATTER TEST for major PRIOR TO STUDENT TEACHING
Bilingual/Elementary Education Clinical Experience Candidates
To move forward into the ELEMENTARY 306a COURSE candidates must: • Be admitted to the COE • Have a 2.75 GPA in PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COURSES + 2.50 overall GPA • Have a recommendation on file in Joyce Eaton’s office. • Meet any other program requirements {see Academic Catalog or advisor} • Complete ELED 301, 302, and two other methods course [319 does not count] with a “C” or better [Course registration proof is required for Fall placements] • Proof of passing the ILLINOIS SUBJECT MATTER TEST for Elementary Education PRIOR TO STUDENT TEACHING
Early Childhood Education Clinical Experience Candidates
To move forward into EARLY CHILDHOOD courses candidates must: • Be admitted to the COE • 328 I & ECED 301 taken concurrently + 2.50 overall GPA • 328 T & ECED 352 taken concurrently + above clinical “B” or better • Meet any other program requirements {see Academic Catalog or advisor} • 328 M & S {optional] + 355 and 306 concurrently with a “C” or better {all above clinical “B” or better} • Proof of passing the ILLINOIS SUBJECT MATTER TEST for ECED PRIOR TO STUDENT TEACHING
CEST Office Meeting Information
The following are mandatory for teacher education candidates in BLBC, ECED, ELED, HPERA, MAT, and SCED.
Clinical Experience Semester Meetings FALL = Tuesday ~ April 2nd or 3rd week SPRING = Tuesday ~ December 1st week {occurs semester before you do experience}
Student Teaching Semester Meetings FALL = Thursday ~ April 2nd or 3rd week SPRING = Thursday ~ December 1st week {occurs semester before you do experience}
