Packet Information
Packets are picked up as follows:
Clinical Experiences: FALL = end of July, beginning of August SPRING = 2nd or 3rd weeks of December
Student Teaching: FALL = end of July, beginning of August SPRING = 2nd or 3rd weeks of December

• TB tests must be current and on file in LWH 4023 to receive packet. Acceptance into College of Education must be completed prior to moving into your major clinical experiences. • *All incomplete grades (I) relative to major / professional sequence must be removed prior to clinical experiences & student teaching • *No "D" grades are allowed in major [must be corrected prior to student teaching] • *Overall GPA must be 2.50 / 2.75 per program requirements • *2.75 GPA required in major / 2.50 SCED major • Administrative drop may occur if the above is not corrected prior to student teaching. REGISTRATION HOLDS WILL OCCUR UNTIL ALL PROBLEMS ARE CORRECTED. • Supervisor names are tentative. Check the board outside LWH 4023 for supervisor names, holds, TB requirements.
After receiving information at the MANDATORY meetings in December for Spring / April for Fall:
Clinical Experience Students Will Receive: • Confirmation packet with school name, address, phone number, and possible cooperating teacher if provided by school. • Log to record times in school. Please read the directions carefully. Hours are recorded by HOUR, not minutes. If your supervisor wishes it to be followed by minute, indicate that on his/her logs NOT the CEST Office log. • Schedule card that must be completed and given to your University Supervisor. This card will contain information about your site attendance and how to get there. You must search the Internet for address and directions. Provide these to your supervisor.
Student Teachers Will Receive: • Confirmation packet with school name, address, phone number, and possible cooperating teacher if provided by school. • Professional Seminar Days letter - to be delivered to your school administrator and cooperating teacher. These two days of meetings are mandatory. Schools may not require you to be at their site. Direct all questions to Dr. Augustine, 442-5350. • Evaluation forms will be provided by your University Supervisor. They will be discussed during your first seminar session to be held Friday afternoon of the Professional Seminar Days.
IMPORTANT FACTS TO REMEMBER: 1) Clinical Experience students are alerted to two days of professional seminars held PRIOR TO the start of the Student Teaching semester. Make all arrangements [family and others] prior to these two days. This refers to babysitting, children pick-up, job responsibilities, marriages, honeymoons, etc. These meetings are MANDATORY! It is your professional responsibility as a future teacher.
2) Attend a CAREER PLACEMENT MEETING sponsored by CEST either in the Fall or Spring. This may be completed during your Clinical or Student Teaching for the purpose of receiving IMPORTANT Credential file information, certification procedures, and what to expect from schools on interviews by a panel of experts. Attendance is mandatory. Sign up sheets will be available from your university supervisors. Further information will be posted on the CEST bulletin boards and CEST Hot Line.
3) All student teachers are required to E-mail Catherine Wycoff sometime during their seventh to twelfth week in Student Teaching. The purpose is to provide information on how student teaching is progressing, comments and suggestions about the experience, and any other information you might want to share. All comments are confidential. These comments are used as an exit from our program by the CEST Office for Program reporting, assists in overall field program development, and NCATE.
4) Every student MUST have an E-mail account, either through home or NEIU. E-mail = C-Wycoff@neiu.edu
5) Saturday meetings are being planned throughout the year to add to your knowledge base. Students will be encouraged to attend.
6)A Mentors Reception will be held the end of April for all Student Teachers and their Cooperating Teachers. This is a concluding activity for the overall field experiences at Northeastern.
Important Illinois State Code Student Information ILSC 5/10-21.9 Illinois law requires school boards to conduct a criminal background investigation on applicants for employment. This law also prohibits the employment of any person who has been convicted of committing or attempting to commit any one or more of a number of offenses. At present, offenses include first degree murder; any Class X felony; juvenile pimping; soliciting for a juvenile prostitute; exploitation of a child; obscenity; child pornography; harmful material; criminal sexual assault; aggravated criminal sexual assault; criminal sexual abuse; aggravated criminal sexual abuse; offenses set forth in the Cannabis Control Act, and crimes defined in the Illinois Controlled Substances Act. Employment must be denied where the offenses and /or conviction occurred inside or outside the state of Illinois.
Clinical & Student Teaching General Information A candidate for student teaching assignment or certification must have good character, sound mental and physical health, and must demonstrate the skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary for working with children and /or adolescents, as applicable. It is recommended that students take no other courses with student teaching, except the Middle School endorsement or a classroom management course. Students who do not meet deadline applications must reapply the next semester. Student teaching assignments begin and end on the dates indicated on the student's official notice of assignments. Students are expected to follow the school calendar of the school in which student teaching is done insofar as vacations and school holidays are concerned. Changes in dates involve consultation and prior permission of the Coordinator of Clinical Experiences & Student Teaching.
