TB Regulations and Rules
All students are required to have a tuberculosis skin test [a Mantoux] before entering any school. The test must be current and will be recognized as valid for one (1) year from date of administration. Students testing positive are subject to the same rules and regulations and must, therefore, obtain a chest x-ray. Further information may be obtained by contacting NEIU's Health Service Department.
This policy is in keeping with the rise in TB across the country and Title 77: Public Health, Chapter 1, Subpart C: Detailed Procedures for the Control of Communicative Diseases. Although the language of this regulation stipulates the parties as "employees in the school" and our clinical students and student teachers are not paid employees, we consider this to be in keeping with the intent of the regulation since our students are in direct contact with children and young adults.
