Student Teaching Time Issues & Enrollment in Courses
Coursework While Student Teaching Student teaching is a full-time responsibility designed to provide numerous educational experiences that are new, unique, and challenging. Adding the burden of additional course work while student teaching is, therefore; discouraged.
It is recognized, however, that a few individuals may need to enroll in minimal additional course work during the student teaching semester. It is expected that additional course work will not interfere with assigned student teaching responsibilities. Courses that may be considered are ELED 319 - Classroom Organization & Management and the ELAD - EDFN 313 Problems, Issues, and Practice in Education for the Middle School Endorsement.
Employment During Student Teaching Working while student teaching is discouraged because of its probable detrimental effect upon performance in the classroom. It should be clearly understood that if in the judgment of the university instructor or cooperating teacher such employment is interfering with the student teaching experience, these individuals may require the student to adjust his/her employment schedule, discontinue working, or withdraw from student teaching.
