Obligations
The university and local school districts have entered into an agreement relative to clinical experiences and student teaching. While these are general statements reflecting the needs of all participants, there are specific responsibilities to which each involved group of individuals must agree.
The cooperating school and university personnel are mutually obligated to: • comply with the policies as established in the handbook. • work collaboratively in providing positive experiences. • discuss issues that will promote growth and enrichment in the overall program. • provide experiences that reflect diversity and understanding of the population at large
The cooperating school is obligated to: • provide qualified and experienced supervisory personnel. • encourage and enhance students' knowledge via direct and indirect experiences. • create understanding and support of the program throughout the school. • provide time opportunities for the cooperating teachers and students to examine and discuss their teaching methods and techniques. • provide opportunities that will meet the requirements of each experience specified in the student required experiences' application. • encourage university students' participation in classroom, overall school, and community activities. • notify the university supervisor or CEST Coordinator of any problems or changes that occur during this experience.
Northeastern Illinois University is obligated to: • assure the school of the students' qualifications for the specified experience. • provide university supervision of the students as specified by the various program descriptions. • involve the cooperating teacher in assessment and evaluation of student participants. • provide professional development activities and opportunities for school personnel. • encourage participation in evaluation of the various university field programs through questionnaires, discussion panels, and departmental advisory boards. • provide inservice and/or resources when feasible and appropriate for the cooperating teachers and schools. • provide broad based exposure to students of varying cultures, races, and linguistic diversity.
