Undergraduate Majors
Certification for teaching in secondary schools is available for the following disciplines:
Art, Biology, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Spanish
Students interested in teaching in secondary schools should consult the appropriate department entry and the Secondary Education section of this catalog.
College of Arts and Sciences Major Declaration Procedures
- The Major Declaration forms are available to students in the following offices: Academic Advising, Enrollment Services Center , Departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, The Dean’s Office in the College of Arts and Sciences (BBH-158).
- The student must complete the form, sign and date it, and take it to the appropriate department in the College of Arts and Sciences to receive an advisor assignment. No other signatures are necessary.
- The College of Arts and Sciences department staff will complete the following information on the form: department name, department representative, advisor assigned, advisor identification number, advisor phone number, advisor office number and e-mail address.
- A copy is given to the student and a copy is kept by the department. The original will be sent to Data Entry and will be processed within 48 - 72 hours.
Graduation Requirements
Students in the College of Arts and Sciences must meet all university requirements as well as the specific requirements for graduation within their particular major.
To be counted toward the major, courses transferred to the University must be accepted by the student's major department.
Transfer students must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours in courses at the 200 and/or 300-level in their majors at Northeastern Illinois University. At least 9 credit hours for a minor must be completed at NEIU.
