Research and Teaching Interests
Sangmin Bae's areas of interest include international norms, human rights, and international relations theory. Her research primarily examines the influence of international human rights norms on domestic politics. In her most recent work, When the State No Longer Kills: International Human Rights Norms and Abolition of Capital Punishment (SUNY Press, 2007), she addresses the role of political leadership and domestic political institutions in helping explain variability in norm compliance in the case of the abolition of capital punishment. She teaches classes on international human rights, international organizations, war and peace, and comparative politics of East Asia.
