The Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Undergraduate degree programs include the Bachelor of Arts in Performance (instrumental or vocal) and the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. The graduate program in Applied Music Pedagogy leads to the Master of Arts degree. If you already have an earned bachelor's degree, NEIU offers the Teacher Certification Program (TCP) for those who wish to become state-certified teachers.
The Department of Music hosts the Dance Program, which offers a minor in dance, and is also a partner with the Ruth Page Center for the Arts and home to the Ensemble EspaƱol Spanish Dance Theater; the in-residence professional dance company. Classes and seminars are offered in ballet, modern, jazz, and Spanish dance.
