Biography Michael Melton, Vocal Instructor at Northeastern Illinois University, has been active throughout his professional life as a conductor, singer, pianist and teacher.
As a conductor, he has worked with the Chicago Children's Choir, the Choral Institute Children's Project of the Aspen Music Festival, and 25 years with church and community choirs. He has worked with WTTW in Chicago as a score reader for several televised broadcasts. He is also the video productions score reader for orchestral concerts at the Ravinia Music Festival in Highland Park, IL.
As a singer, he has been a member of the chorus of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, member/soloist with the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, section leader/soloist with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, and member/soloist with the Chamber Choir of the Aspen Music Festival.
As a pianist, he has performed as coach/accompanist in numerous concerts, accompanied rehearsals of the Chicago Symphony Chorus, and performed for three years at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago.
As a teacher, he conducted choirs and taught general music classes at the junior high school level. His university teaching has included the University of Chicago, North Park University in Chicago, and his present position teaching Basic and Choral Conducting and Diction for Singers (Italian, French, German, and English) at Northeastern.
