History

Historians study the
impact of time and change on human affairs. From this perspective, the
curriculum
of the History Department
provides students an understanding
of the
past designed to foster a critical and
humane approach to the
complexities of
the present. The department offers a comprehensive range of
courses that
explore the historical development of a broad spectrum of human
societies and
enhance students' appreciation of their own and
other
cultures. Our curriculum
also emphasizes skills of critical thinking and writing that students
will find
indispensable as they pursue a variety of careers, including
education,
research, law, business,
public affairs, and the service professions.
History
is a flexible major which combines
well with a wide choice of
minors.
The
Department offers courses leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts
and
Master
of Arts as well as a minor.
