Communication, Media & Theatre
ONE DEPARTMENT--THREE DISCIPLINES
COMMUNICATION: The study of human communication processes through exposure to communication theories, research, and experiential learning. Areas of study include interpersonal communication, organizational communication and rhetorical communication. Students gain presentational, writing, and argumentation skills that prepare them for a wide range of professional opportunities.
MEDIA: The study of the transmission of information and its impact on large and small audiences. Courses cover the social, political and economic analysis of multiple forms of media - print, broadcast, film and the internet. Students are also provided hands-on experience through video and multi-media production as well as journalism writing courses.
THEATRE: The study of the production elements brought together to create a collaborative performing art. Areas of study include performance, design/technical, theatre history, drama/theatre theory and dramatic literature. Students gain hands-on experience through productions mounted in the N.E.I.U. Stage Center Theatre.
