Advising
STUDENT ADVISEMENT
Now that you have decided to be a Speech and Performing Arts major, your
first step is to visit our secretary, Room FA-240, to declare yourself a speech
major and request an advisor. Assignment of an academic advisor will be based
on your choice of a person available in your area of concentration. All Speech
and Performing Arts Department faculty members have their semester schedules
posted on their doors. Take a few moments to get to know your new advisor:
either stop by during office hours, or telephone her/him to set up an
appointment.
Your advisor will counsel you regarding the requirements of your major and
the university's general education program, and will be someone to whom you can
go when you would like information about course offerings, job opportunities,
co-curricular speech programs, or scholarships.
Because you will remain with the same advisor throughout your enrollment in
the university (unless you request a change), we hope you will discuss your aims
and concerns with your advisor to help make your college experience more
academically meaningful and socially rewarding.
In all degree programs, you must file a preliminary application for
graduation with the Records Office at the beginning of the trimester preceding
the one in which you expect to graduate. At that time, you must have completed
85 credit hours and must have passed the Constitution Examination or have taken
a course equivalent to it.
You must file a second application, the final one, also with the Records
Office, at the beginning of Your last trimester. Responsibility for filing is
entirely yours.
Those of you who are transferring into Northeastern Illinois University
will be required to complete at least 30 credit hours, normally the last 30,
here at Northeastern.
