Anthropology: Biological Anthropologist. We are interested in strong candidates with expertise in human biological variation or paleoanthropology. The candidate will be expected to teach introductory biological anthropology courses and develop advanced undergraduate courses in his or her area(s) of expertise. The candidate will also participate in the NEIU First Year Experience program, as well as in NEIU’s interdisciplinary programs as appropriate. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic contributor to a healthy, active department with a strong commitment to program development, teaching excellence, student learning, and the desire to engage students in fieldwork and collaborative research. Art History: Non-Western. The position will involve teaching a broad range of topics on non-Western art. Responsibilities will include teaching introductory through advanced undergraduate art history courses, course development, and department advising, in addition to research and service. Please include examples of publications or other examples of scholarly writing. A Ph.D. in art history or related discipline is required; knowledge of instructional technology is preferred. Biology: Biochemist/Molecular Biologist. We seek a candidate who is using biochemical and/or molecular techniques to address either basic or applied questions in biology, including but not limited to cell biology, developmental biology or genetics. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to engage graduate and undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities will include biochemistry, molecular biology, and courses in an area of specialization. Contributions to both the undergraduate and graduate programs will be expected as well as research and service. An earned doctorate in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related filed is required. Biology: Physiologist. We seek a candidate who uses modern physiological techniques to address any of a wide range of questions related to the biology of either vertebrates or invertebrates. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and ability to engage graduate and undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities will include vertebrate physiology, a course involving a major group of animals, and courses in an area of specialization. Contributions to both the undergraduate and graduate programs will be expected as well as research and service. An earned doctorate in animal physiology or a related field is required. Communication, Media and Theatre. Communication/Media (two positions). We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: conflict resolution, negotiation, group dynamics, family, gender or intercultural communication, media history and literacy, new media and international media. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic contributors to a healthy, active department with a strong commitment to program development, teaching excellence, and the desire to engage both master’s and undergraduate students. Earth Science. Area of specialization is open, but expertise related to surficial processes is desired. We especially seek candidates who are interested in developing a field-based research program that takes advantage of the regional geology and will engage undergraduate students in research. An interest in global warming and climate change would be an advantage. The department supports innovative pedagogy, and candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching. In addition to introductory courses and upper level courses in their specialty, the successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop General Education courses. The candidate may also be asked to teach in the University’s First Year Experience program. Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment; post-doctoral experience is desirable. Economics. Microeconomics and applied policy fields. An interest in urban policy issues would be an advantage. The candidate should have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and program building in a growing department. English: Rhetoric and Composition. We seek a rhetorician to teach first-year and upper-level writing courses, as well as composition theory courses in our MA in English—Composition Track. Specialization in second language writing, urban literacy issues, or writing in the disciplines a plus. The position may also include future coordination of the first-year writing program on a rotational basis. Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or a related discipline is required. Geography: Geographic Information Systems. The successful candidate will create and enhance technical courses for the B.A. and M.A. programs, and develop a GIS certificate program. Other applied geospatial techniques (remote sensing, etc), and an interest in environmental planning and/or environmental hazards/preparedness will be valuable. Social Work (two positions, open rank). Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate Social Work courses. One of these candidates may be offered a leadership position in the Department. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in social work or closely related field, an MSW from an accredited program and demonstrate a commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service. Candidates who expect to teach practice courses should also have at least two years post-MSW practice experience. Successful candidates should address their abilities to work within a culturally diverse environment and to prepare students to work effectively in a world of increasing diversity in their application. Sociology. We are interested in candidates with a strong teaching and scholarly background in African and African-American Studies. In addition, the candidate will be expected to develop courses on the Sociology of the African Diaspora and Globalization and be able to participate in our African and African American Studies program. Specialists in Race and Culture who work within a comparative or Diasporic framework focusing on the effects of global trends on peoples and communities of African descent in the Americas are encouraged to apply. The College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The chair is responsible for supervising all aspects of the program including course scheduling, hiring faculty and staff, faculty development, program development, advocacy of the department's interests within the university, and budgetary management. In addition to excellent communication and leadership skills, the successful candidate has administrative experience, demonstrates ability to work with and mentor diverse faculty and students, and is a consensus builder.
Qualifications include: earned doctorate from an accredited university, a strong commitment to teaching and scholarship, and service that would lead to an appointment as a tenured Associate or Full Professor. Foreign Languages and Literatures-Chair. The Department offers BA programs in French and Spanish, course work in Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Korean, and a Master's degree in Latin American Literatures and Cultures. The university is currently developing an interdisciplinary major in Global Studies in which the Department will play a significant role. A strong preference will be given to specialists in Spanish language and Latin American literatures and cultures. An interest in cultural studies is preferred.
