Biology-Ecologist. We seek a candidate who is doing field-based ecological research that addresses either basic or applied questions in ecology. The Chicago area offers a wide range of research opportunities, including: zoos, botanic gardens and museums; an extensive range of terrestrial habitats from prairies to woodlands, and access to an extensive system of forest preserves; a diversity of aquatic habitats including extensive systems of streams, lakes and rivers, as well as proximity to Lake Michigan; and access to Markham Prairie, which is owned and managed by the University. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, experience with or a commitment to using and developing innovative teaching methods, and the ability to engage graduate and undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities will include general ecology, and courses in an area of specialization. Contributions to both the undergraduate and graduate programs will be expected as well as research and service. Biology-Geneticist. We seek a candidate who is using genetic techniques to address either basic or applied questions in biology. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, experience with or a commitment to using and developing innovative teaching methods, and the ability to engage graduate and undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities will include general genetics and courses in an area of specialization. Contributions to both the undergraduate and graduate programs will be expected as well as research and service. An earned doctorate in genetics or a related field is required. Chemistry-Environmental. We seek candidates in Environmental Chemistry to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level and with an interest in joint student-faculty research. An interest in interdisciplinary collaboration is a plus. The successful candidate is also expected to be involved in the service activities which impact the department, college and university. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Post-doctoral experience is desirable. Communication. We seek candidates with background in communication and communication theory, and interest and/or expertise in conflict negotiation, group discussion or leadership, corporate communication, and/or research methods at the advanced undergraduate and Master’s degree levels, as well as in basic communication courses at freshman and sophomore levels. Interest and ability to direct graduate research using quantitative methodologies desirable. History-Islamic World. Candidates should have a deep and broad understanding of the Islamic World, with area of specialization and period of concentration open, and interdisciplinary approaches welcome. The successful candidate is expected to teach general surveys as well as upper-division and graduate courses in area of specialization or regional field. Music-Voice. The new faculty member will be responsible for teaching undergraduate/graduate applied voice as well as related courses including applied pedagogy, and repertoire and performance seminars. Additional responsibilities include coordination and development of the vocal area, student recruitment, and/or other duties in accordance with the needs of the department. Physics. This position was created as part of an initiative to engage students in the STEM disciplines at NEIU through a new interdisciplinary student center for science engagement housed within the STEM departments. The successful applicant for this position will have the opportunity to contribute to the center as well as to the interdisciplinary environmental science curriculum currently under development. We seek a candidate with a solid training in Physics and an interest in teaching at all levels of the Physics curriculum. NEIU is seeking faculty members who have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, an active research program and the ability to engage undergraduates in research as well as contribute to program development. A Ph.D. degree in physics is required and post-doctoral experience is desirable. Review begins February 1, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled.

Psychology-Physiological/Biological. The Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure track position for an Assistant Professor in physiological/biological psychology or cognitive neuroscience. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a research program in their area of specialty that involves undergraduates and may teach courses both at our main campus as well at our University Center of Lake County site. Social Work. Issues related to immigration and immigrant communities. The successful candidate may be asked to affiliate with the Latino-Latin American Studies Program. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate Social Work courses. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in social work or closely related field, an MSW from an accredited program and demonstrate a commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service. Candidates who expect to teach practice courses should also have at least two years post-MSW practice experience. Candidates should address their abilities to work within a culturally diverse environment and to prepare students to work effectively in a world of increasing diversity in their application.
