Quick Facts - Our Students
About 12,000 students attend Northeastern Illinois University. Our students come from more than 100 different countries, creating a global learning environment. Our average class size is 19 and our student-to-instructor ratio is 15:1. Our population is 61% female and 39% male.
Our alumni have a reputation for being excellent teachers and administrators. 3,800 teachers working in the Chicago area were trained at NEIU. Twenty-three of our alumni have won the prestigious Golden Apple Award for teaching.
Our most popular majors are Elementary Education, Board of Governors, Accounting, Justice Studies/Criminal Justice, and Psychology. We offer 37 undergraduate and 38 graduate programs.
There are more than 70 student organizations on campus, with interests including politics, academics, leisure/social activities, media, and community services. The NEIU Programming Board, Greek Life Program, Student Government Association and Leader Emerging Developing Program also offer additional co-curricular activities. Our annual events include Fall into Fun Week, Greek Week and the Spring Fling.
We also offer intramural sports, clubs and other activities. Special events include guest speakers, theater and dance performances, and concerts, most of them free to NEIU students.
